An interdisciplinary project in which photography and music tell a story together

compositions by Florian Finis photographs by Chochu

The photos talk about moments which express the eternity. Buildings in a state of disrepair, which carry the spirit of the past, and the new blossoming life of future get merged together. This sight symbolize the constant return of nature and all human made appearances, while everything has its own cycle.

There are places where we can find solace — ruins that captivate us. What is it about these sites that radiates such energy? Do they awaken feelings in us that we can only experience there? These powerful emotions evoke a sense of wholeness, revealing connections between elements and allowing us to sense the sublime.

As plants spread and reclaim these structures, the buildings continue to decay. These moments exist in a transitional space, caught between decay and rebirth. In this time, the natural world merges with our creations. It feels like a slow farewell to what we have left behind, as nature reclaims its origins. This moment of unity illustrates how decay and creation are intertwined and complementary — one giving way to the other in an endless cycle.

I find peace when I view these images, gaining a deeper understanding that everything flows and is infinite.

This project emerged from a shared affinity for ruins. The dreamlike quality of these sights has continually captivated us. Since 2019, we have been inspired to travel, capturing numerous photos of overgrown remnants of buildings. Some locations we stumbled upon by chance, while others we sought out based on recommendations or research. Immersing ourselves in these subjects also laid the groundwork for the piano compositions that followed. Most musical ideas originated on-site and were later developed into full works at the piano.

Our passion for ruins has endured over time. We aim to engage art enthusiasts of all ages who share this love and are receptive to romantic sensory experiences, as well as those who appreciate classical piano music and resonate with its sounds. We invite viewers and listeners to immerse themselves in the atmosphere this project creates. The photographs and musical compositions complement each other, forming a space where the audience can find a profound connection to the theme. This can evoke thoughtful contemplation in solitude or inspire shared dialogue about the subject.
